These devices for separation of strongly magnetic materials employ a variety of mechanical designs. Recently developed high gradient magnetic separation devices extend the useful application of magnetic separation to very weakly magnetic materials of small particle size. Potential applications of these new devices in pollution control, chemical processing, and the benefication of nonferrous low grade ores is indicated. For laboratory studies, we have conventional Sala wet weak magnetic separators and dry neodymium belt separators.
The field intensity for dry the neodymium is 1 T at maximum. At the test factory, we have conventional Sala wet low-intensity magnetic separation drums, and our newest separator type is a continuously operating SLon high gradient separator with a maximum field intensity of approximately 1 T.
They are often used in the Food, Grain and Milling, and Powder and Bulk industries, and provide protection against product contamination. Magnetic liquid traps can handle acidic food products, and remove the smallest ferrous particles from liquids with a higher viscosity. They increase protection against entrapped ferrous materials, while helping prevent build-up and bridging of larger products.
They can be installed in hoppers, pits, chutes, housings, and bins to remove tramp metals from larger flowing materials. Wedge Magnets are installed in narrow, vertical, or steeply inclined chutes in gravity flow applications.
They protect pellet mills and other equipment from damage caused by tramp metals. Wedge magnets are used in the Grain and Milling industry to process particulate or semi-solid materials.
