Storyline Edit. The story follows Danielle Dani Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend a college in Atlanta so she can join - and revitalize - their once-prominent drum line. Dani's quest to become the first female section leader of the drum line in the school's history will be hampered by upperclassmen including her cousin, Tyree , her feelings for fellow band mate and rival, Jayven, and the school's crosstown rivals.

The original Drumline was a surprising little gem, given its existence was mainly to propel Nick Cannon's career forward. The film was a touching film that showcased exceptional marching band choreography alongside a main character whose actions and faults were because of the choices he made rather than justified by the things he lacked, such as a father figure and a stable homelife.

When I was 20 or 21 and my first cousin and best friend, Tiffany, had just graduated from college, we had this smart idea to move to Los Angeles, get an apartment and just see what happened.
And we would cook and watch Drumline three times a day at least. It was our movie. It was our safe haven. We would sit there and watch it until we knew the lines and the routines. To be a part of such a classic film is huge for me, and it is such fun cast.
It is young. I show up for those all the time, and I care about the band more than I do the football game half the time. Alexandra Shipp: Dani is all about girl power. AS: I loved the drumming. But still she inspired me. It was just my movie. I watched it with my brothers. They loved it. I thought I was going to become a drummer. AS: You should watch this movie because I worked hard, okay?!
